How can
you lose your driver’s license by walking your dog on the beach?
More than 75000
people were striped of their driver’s license in 1999 for failing to
pay fines for minor offences
Most of the
cancellations are understood to have been the result of unpaid traffic
and parking fines.
But unpaid local
government imposed fines such as for walking a dog on a beach , fines
for none payment of schools fees, and penalties for not voting can
also result in the loose of the driver’s license.
The road and
traffic authorities has its own system for handling traffic fines,
however if fines remain unpaid after its sanction then the matter is
handed to the State Debt Recovery Office (SDRO) as well.
If a fine is not
paid or arrangements to pay off the debits not maid the SDRO will
begin steps such as license or vehicle registration sanction with
other $40 enforcement fee added.
Once an outstanding
fine or penalty is paid license and registration can be reinstate
within 24 Hrs.
