The search to find a new candidate
begins! |
After the predicted
victory of George W Bush, the search for the new candidate has
just begun. The Democrats are thinking to bring Hillary Clinton
for the presidential election of 2008, and the Republicans have
a very difficult task of finding someone to replace Bush.
In US constitution
a successful president can only serve 2 terms, and traditionally
in the second term it is the Vice President to run for the
presidency, but not this time. Although Republicans had no
choice of pushing Dick Cheney for the position of Vice President
in this election, but due to his age and ill health he is not a
good candidate for the next election. The next candidate must be
prepared to work possibly 3 term, one under Bush's term, and 2
terms -if successful, on his own victory in 2 elections. That
would be anything between 4 to 12 years maximum. Dick Cheney's
health was questioned few times before and during the election,
he had a mild hart attack and his age is also a question.
The Republicans
have no choice but to dump Cheney as soon as possible so the new
candidate can establish himself as a worthy future president.
The new vice president needs time to establish himself, the
sooner the better.
To guess when it is
time for Cheney to go you have to create a timetable
backwards.
The new candidate for
the election of 2008 will be introduced at least a year earlier,
traditionally he will be the vice president, so the vice
president in 2007 whoever will be, is needs to be on the job and
be known by the people for at least 2 years. the first year is
not really counted as he tries to adjust and fit into the job,
the second year is when he starts to make decisions on
president's behalf to show he can do the job. So his job really
starts at 2006, a year earlier would be 2005. Sometimes next
year we will witness the changes, Cheney will use the health to
excuse himself and a new face will be introduced as a new vice
president.
It is common that the
job usually goes to those in the cabinet, but this time no one
qualifies among the ministers to carry the job that ultimately
will be the next US president in 2008 if elected. The
Republicans seems did not believe that they would win the 2004
election that allowed Cheney to run with Bush for the race to
Whitehouse, if they know did they would have got some else to
run for the job before so they did not have had this problem
now.
The current cabinet
members that would qualify for the job are not really the best
choice for a long term plan, and that would derail the success
of Republicans in 2008. Rumsfeld at his best most of the time no
one understands what he is talking about. As the US is not yet
ready for a black president Collin Powell is out, he also has
expressed he wants to take a low key in the new administration.
For the rest, we have to wait and see the new administration to
find out who will replace Cheney. They need someone to be around
for at lease 3 and maximum of 11 years, interested for the job?
